Abstract: Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is an advanced transportation system that enhances all modes of commuting standards to be more smart, safe and secure. The main goal of ITS is to offer smart innovative services to all means of transportation that include road, shipping, railways and airways. Specific to road transportation mode, the ITS offers enormous facilities to overcome the issues we come across in day –to –day commuting. ITS enables conventional transportation to modern transportation by ensuring safety, mobility, informationrich, improved user convenience and fully connected transportation network. It empowers smarter transportation by integrating advanced communications technologies into transportation infrastructure. Realizing and implementing this transformed transportation, ITS certainly improve liveability to our society and to our daily lives. Major cities in India like Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi have witnessed and implemented ITS projects to enhance road traffic system and maintenance. The upsurge in the population in the cities has raised the volume of automobiles in the city. This quick vehicular development in urban parts of our nation has created great emphasis on converting the old-style commuting system to ITS. This has also led to an increase not only in the quantity of objects or vehicles participating in ITS environment but also increase in the enormous amount of data generation in ITS. Therefore, the key to deliver smarter services related to diverse means of transport and traffic maintenance, is data analysis.
