Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs) are human independent networks deployed in the marine environment. They are made up of a large group of tiny sensors which will work collaboratively on the defined task. The important function of a sensor network is to monitor, gather and report the specified data to the remote station for processing. Localization is a way to determine the location of sensor nodes in the network. Many algorithms have been developed so far in this area. It is highly desirable to design secure, energy efficient, low-cost and scalable localization mechanisms for UWSNs. In this research work, we have put forward our opinion by proposing a secure, energy efficient and scalable localization scheme for localization in UWSNs. This proposal is a result of fine-grained study of localization algorithms based on Swarm Intelligence based optimization. The simulation experiments have shown that the proposed approach is more efficient than the traditional approaches in case of enforcing security provided with higher level of accuracy during node localization in UWSNs.en_US
